If you are looking at studying the electric guitar on the internet, GuitarTricks is without a doubt a good choice. You can find video guitar lessons addressing all different guitar styles, therefore it caters to everyone from complete newbies to skilled guitarists as well. The video guitar lessons are structured and classified in several ways, which is a must, given the number of available guitar lessons.

A great feature for more knowledgeable guitarists is that the search function lets you find lessons in the styles of well-known guitar icons. This segment of GuitarTricks is called “By Inspiration,” and this allows you to find tunes played by guitarists from Eric Clapton to BB King, Eddie Van Halen to Jack Johnson, and more.

The music styles you'll be able to learn at GuitarTricks:

The most beneficial things we found during our assessment of GuitarTricks:

  • Great structure, and all lessons are easy to locate.
  • Special courses designed to take guitarists step-by-step through many styles of guitar, including total beginner course, blues course, country course, etc.
  • Excellent search function, so that you can navigate the many video lessons.
  • One of the best attributes we found through our evaluation of GuitarTricks is that video clips on the website are downloadable, and you also get a cost-free video player to watch them with.
  • Inexpensive pricing (only $10.75 a month with the annual membership)

Downsides:

  • Because GuitarTricks was the earliest video guitar tutorials website online, about 2% of their total videos are older, and thus of lower quality.

Giving a try and signing up for the GuitarTricks free trial membership for 2 weeks is a no-brainer really.

Learning to play acoustic or electric guitar with the aid of GuitarTricks is actually a completely good alternative to hiring a private guitar teacher, since GuitarTricks offers a whole array of advantages, which a personal guitar tutor simply cannot offer.

  1. Hi, considering joining but see many issues with attracting me as a new student… First of all, the 24 free lessons seem to hold 29 of which 2 are requiring full member access, next most of the free lessons are electric (I am interested in acoustic only). Next the free trial requires me to add payment method which by itself is not a problem but I cannot sign up for annual subscription using the free trial, only the more expensive monthly membership and cannot use coupon code…

The reference we pay only after 60 days if we learn is also not true, we have 60 day money back guarantee which are two different statements… So we do pay but could get a refund if unhappy…

This kind of puts me of signing up… Seen some free lessons, they seem good but how many are acoustic vs electric ( electric seems to have the main focus )

    Thans a lot… I need some convincing… 😉

    1. Hi Ronny,
I wouldn’t overthink things this much.
If you are serious about learning guitar and are starting from 0, GuitarTricks is a great choice.

      Let me address your concerns:

      1. Sign up for their free premium access plan, and start learning every day. As I mentioned in the article, you need to provide your Credit Card details, but they do not charge you until the trial period is up.

You should cancel the trial plan before it turns into a monthly membership, and simply buy the annual membership with the coupon.

      2. Whether you play acoustic or electric guitar doesn’t matter as a beginner. The basics are exactly the same on both types of guitars.

Later on, after learning the basics, you can choose to advance on different dedicated courses that use just the acoustic or electric guitar.

      3. The money-back period is just that. If you decide you are not going to continue with the guitar, you get your money back within 60 days. This is why they say it is risk-free.

  2. I am a beginner waiting for my guitar to arrive. I am a senior (75) with little to no miso experience. After reading your reviews, I am conflicts to which program to use. Can you offer some advice for an old guy that has a desire to learn guitar in his latter years?

    1. Hi there, Guitartricks is my #1 recommendation to beginners, I think you’ll find their lessons useful. Use the free trial link above to get started, and make sure you practice every day. You’ll find that you get better and better with each day of practice.

    1. Hi there, as a left-handed player, you can still learn from right-handed guitarists. It takes a bit of getting used to at first, but not much. You should definitely not let this hold you back, as most lessons you’ll find online are created by right-handed players.

  3. Can I sign up for the free two week trial and if I like the program, then sign up for an annual membership at the discounted $143.20? Thank you.

    1. Yes, just cancel your initial sign up, so that doesn’t get billed after 2 weeks.
Also, it’s a good idea to make up your mind in December, since Guitartricks has a pretty insane deal going on. The yearly membership is discounted + they will send you a free acoustic guitar 🙂

  4. I signed up today 10-5-16 from the App Store and gave my credit card information and was charged $19.95, I was not offered a 14 day trial and then a rate of $14.95 as stated on this site. Could you please explain how that works. Thank you for your time.

    1. Hi, I don’t know if the free trial offer works through the App Store. If you would have signed up through my site, you would have clicked the link at the top of the page, and it would have taken you to the free 2 week trial signup page. Like that, your card wouldn’t have been charged for 2 weeks.

No worries though, they have a 60 day refund period, so test everything as you would have, and if you don’t like it, just ask for a refund.

  5. Actually it’s a free trial but with strings attached(no pun intended). You have to give them your payment information and then they charge you after the 14 days. Sounds dodgy to me. Does not encourage me to sign up, knowing how so many business’s scam so much these days.

    1. I can assure you that it’s not a scam 🙂 Cancelling is all automatic actually, there is a cancel button in your account page. Just press it, and it’s cancelled.

Also, you should know that GuitarTricks is the oldest guitar lesson site on the net, I have lots of respect for them. They’ve pushed online lessons far in the last 2 decades. My site was established in 2008, they beat me by a decade 😀

      Tom
