What can make a great movie even better? A great soundtrack of course!
Iris was written by the Goo Goo Dolls specifically to be part of the soundtrack for the movie City of Angels, and well, needless to say it turned out pretty well... 3 Grammy nominations, longest running #1 chart position (18 weeks). That's what Iris achieved.
The original track features a barrage of instruments, so you need to know that the simple guitar adaptation won't have the same rich sound. But of course, you can always play along with the backing track found on our Iris guitar lesson page, and feel like you're sitting in the middle of an orchestra 🙂
So a few words about the guitar adaptation of Iris, first of all, it's played in an alternate tuning. You'll be tuning your low E string to a B, and all the other strings to a D. Strumming this tuning creates a rich ringing sound, characteristic of 12 string guitars.
Once you're tuned up, you'll learn all the parts to the song, so you'll be able to play along with the original track. You'll want to download the tabs to Iris as well, since you'll see the exact progression of the sections of the song.
I think you'll have lots of fun learning to play Iris, and it'll really develop your strumming skills. Start learning it today, and once you can, make sure you play it to your friends and family!
